Social differentiation: practice of identifying different kinds of people. To maintain differences, people perform acts of distinctive race and ethnicity. Race: genetic differences that produce perceived differences in appearance. Ethnicity: social and cultural characteristics people are believed to share. High rates of immigration support the survival of ethnic and racial groups.
