Document Summary
First country to put the message of a multicultural country. People are welcomed to celebrate their culture (in spirit) Sometimes in reality however, it is not as simple (in practice) Majority of people think multiculturalism is good for canada/society (55%), 30% regard it as bad. Perhaps people understand multiculturalism in different ways. Fosters the notion of tolerance and acceptance of others. People who responded yes may have felt impacted by multiculturalism in a positive way. Pressure that it is an idea that you should support. Generational differences (newer generations probably have a higher acceptance of this) Protect their culture, so they say multiculturalism is good. Fear of one loosing their culture: melting pot (mixing all cultures into one, in contrast , mosaic (distinguish everyone, but still form a greater whole) Fear/threat of what i"m used too moving into a direction of things you may not support. Loose the ability to say what is unique about canadian identity.
