Document Summary
Try to control false positives by: presenting separate symptoms for each disorder, use a number of symptoms to show that they have a disorder, exclusions for things that may be caused by things that are not the disorder. False positives: conceptual validity is hard to get because symptoms can also be normal reactions when they are in stressful environments. Sensitivity: criteria that is satisfied by all disorders in the domain of interest (no mistaken disorders classified as non disorders: correct criteria means no false negatives. Ces-d measurements didn"t allow differences between distress and disorder so the high numbers were due to distress. When a stressor is removed, distress will go away. Elevated scores may be due to other factors there should be no expectable responses therefore you cannot simply say that is why. Distress is moderately stable throughout time so it can describe differences in mental health of a population.
