Social control lecture 7- gender basics: gender basics: Sex gender system: idea that in our society we have a binary system. Gender as work divides work in private and public sphere, legitimating those in authority. if men weren"t ranked above women maybe this process wouldn"t be occurring. A source of inequality: doing gender: Gender as a routine methodical and recurring accomplishment. West and zimmerman see gender as being social, its reoccurring accomplishment, something that we constantly do , its an activity, not something you have but do.
