Intersectionality: saw race as primordial lens, where are your from, also about nationality. Imagined, large community of people who are perceived to have common origin, language, religion, traditions and economic and political life they perceive themselves and perceived by others to belong to common territory and share connection to abstract unified identity. Imagine those in canada identify as cdn, even though you haven"t met them: don"t necessarily have to have those things in common but perceived that they do, british and french, can be part of diaspora and therefore nation. Legal status conferred by states upon individuals as members of the national political community: can be a birthright or gained through naturalization, comes w/ exclusive rights, obligations, protections, and privileges, have polticial rights, only citizens can vote.
