Allow respondent to communicate voluntary participation within accurate knowledge of the study aims. Reduce/eliminate exposure to physical harm, psychological harm, legal harm & social injury. Combination of methods that involves observation (sometimes participant observation) and often interviews. An active attempt to remove from the research any elements that might indicate the subject"s identities. Only pursue confidentiality if anonymity is not possible.
