Document Summary

The german ideology marx: the premise of historical materialism. For human beings to make history they have to survive. Forget what people do in terms of their ideals and values, but those are a result of organizing to produce our livelihood. If we can"t survive, we can"t make history: how society produces is fundamental. There has to be a fit between structures. Structures that don"t fit won"t be functional: the division of labor. Division of labor refers to the allocation of tasks and production. Industrial capitalism has produced more bounty and has been more productive. Capitalism produces plenty, it has the potential from freeing human beings from wants and needs. Capitalism makes humans more animal like than giving them the things they need. Capitalism instead of enslaving them, sets them free. Work that is not satisfying or fulfilling peoples potential. Means of production are owned by one class (the bourgeoisies)
