Class inequality is different from other inequalities. It is dif cult for individuals to develop class consciousness; it is something that must be socially constructed. Class differentiation requires an awareness of class differences and interests. Class conflict and class resistance are hard to maintain. Convergence thesis: industrialization eliminates cultures and social patterns; as societies industrialize under capitalism, their social patterns become more similar, despite social and cultural differences that existed before.
