Polygamy: form of marriage where individuals have more than one spouse, polygamy husband has more than one wife, more prevalent, usually what is being referred to, polyandry wife has more than one husband. Polyamory: more contemporary relationships where there are multiple individuals involved in a relationship without religious overtones, most often the individuals have relationships outside of marriage. History of polygamy: historically a religious practice, deuteronomy, you must marry a second person your brother"s wife if he dies, emergence of christian church was when polygamy began to be very unfavourable. In 1604 bigamy and polygamy became punishable by the civil court: originally was a capital offence punishable by death. United states: utah was effectively established by the mormon church, almost a civil war between the civil war and the us federal government over the practice of polygamy. It has remained in the code with virtually no change.
