Problems are extremely complex, multi-layered, and involve many variables; changing one may produce drastic and unexpected changes in another. Many opinions in society, some of whom will be opposed to your methods. Many ideas / solutions may sound good, but difficult to implement. Flowchart for finding solutions: narrowing research purpose, consulting literature, generating research hypothesis, concepts, variables, relationship between problem. 1. identify studies that have been conducted on the same topic: assist selection of theoretical approaches. 3. identify thesis: extrapolate themes, debates, tensions, disagreements / consensus. Organize each source under a header in a mind map (focus of conversations, main debates, different stakeholders, structure/regulations) How do we operationalize concepts / create observable measures? e. g. gendered behavior: assuming gender behaviour exists, operationalizing gender behaviour: cultural stereotypes (e. g. dressing differences); social roles ascribed based on gender (e. g. women as care-givers), personality traits, interests.
