Visual literacy: the ability to read write and respond to and interpret visual images. They have to be decoded, read and analyzed. What does that mean?: symbolism and iconography, words, depiction of human form (is the person smiling? what is their posture like?, visual allusion (it can involve considering the relationship of an image to other images. This is what stuart hall calls intertextuality) ie stigmata. Essay #2 think about how images convey meaning practice skills in visual literacy. Ie pic of carol danvers and the other superheros saying bye. Balance and centrality (pic of the white comic book carol danvers) panel takes up a whole page, carol is higher up. Colour (the puffy clouds and vibrant primary colours of superhero costumes strongly indiviate they are superhero"s, ka(cid:373)ala"s black hair vs carols blonde hair) Iconography (doves make her seem like shes god) Tension between words and images (the image looks peaceful but words reflect tension bc old superheros leave)
