Visual literacy: the ability to read write and respond to and interpret visual images. They have to be decoded, read and analyzed. What does that mean?: symbolism and iconography, words, depiction of human form (is the person smiling? what is their posture like?, visual allusion (it can involve considering the relationship of an image to other images. This is what stuart hall calls intertextuality) ie stigmata. Essay #2 think about how images convey meaning practice skills in visual literacy.
