PSY427H1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Media Consumption, Black Panther, Robin Givhan
Document Summary
Clustering of data suggests there are discreet differences in how people are. People are engaging with media content (e. g. , video games) in different ways. What they"re dependent on is some sort of interpretive engagement with the content. You"re not going to be affected by any media text unless you make sense of it in some way - unless it has some sort of meaning for you. To understand the so-called effects, we have to understand the signs, codes, and the interpretive work. Have to understand that as it precedes any sort of consequences that we"re considered with. To understand any sort of media effects, we have to begin with the concern about how the tech is being wed. Have you understand how people read/decode; these are signs, have to understand how people make meaning out of them. Can"t avoid at all three levels when you look at any effective interest.
