Lots of ways to regulate interactions with ppl that"s difficult to do verbally. We send subtle nonverbal signals (indirect communication) helps for smooth flow of interaction i. e. at a party, am i allowed to join this conversation, you"ll look for nonverbal cues. Two variables for how ppl signal intimacy: nonverbal involvement, positive affect, both together signs intimacy showing you"re engaged to another person and that you"re actively involved (paying attention and showing enthusiasm) Proxemics: physically embodying more closeness to that person, match horizontal plane (the picture on the side)
