Document Summary

We have very sophisticated causal pattern detection: this leads into sophisticated hierarchal/contextual learning. Sophisticated means that we are intelligent, self organizing, self correcting. Active internal processing: self organizing, using opponent processing, probative, doing things like criteria setting/ symbol detection, recursive, predictive (prediction of prediction) Organisms are predicting how they can find the signal that gives them what they want. Salience is relevance that grabs your attention: when statistical relevance and selectional relevance come together. Things are salient to us because we are trying to be relevant to the person/thing. To be rational is to care about truth and meaning. Caring about meaning is opposite of behaviourism (has to do with cognitive) Predictions: diachronic - throughout time (a --> b --> c, synchronic - at the same time. Accommodation - new info causes you to restructure old ideas. Propose that you can understand all of psychopathology as falling on on spectrum between psychosis. Autistic people are trying to find a pattern.
