Document Summary
Lecture topics: review quiz due sept 28, 4pm, this class: ch 5, next class: ch 6. Cultural differences: ch5 - color perception. Lecture notes: object recognition cont and colour perception. Extrastriate cortex: region of cortex bordering the v1 with multiple areas involved in processing. Each has a separate map of the striate cortex. Receptive fields for extrastriate areas are more sophisticated. Recall simple and complex cells in particularly orientations. Respond to visual properties important for perceiving objects. These cells code for this, seen in the example under what and where pathways. Same visual input occurs in both images --> v1 responds equally to both. V2 neuron might respond more to a than b bc black edge is owned by square in a and not in b. This is boundary ownership, defining which is figure and which is background. Only fire if it belongs to the object, despite it being the same boundary.
