Can hold new memories for less than 30 seconds (at least 7 seconds) No ability to make new memories: he only exists in his short-term memory (very transient) Only a deficit in memory not in his overall cognition. Still has procedural memory (walk, talk, play the piano, etc. ) Memory: a record of some specific pieces of information (usually an event) At any time, we can replay these memories (recall and relive the sensations, emotions, etc. as if it were happening) A manipulation of our perceptions of our environments. Encoding: taking information from environment (sensations), transduce the signal, and encode it in your brain in electrical signals. Storage: these memories must be stored somewhere, but where, no one really knows , both conscious and unconscious, consciously cram your lecture material, unconsciously- spontaneously recall your favourite line from friends. Retrieval: retrieving the memory accessing the memory, and pulling it into awareness.
