Document Summary

Structural imaging: taking a static, 3d picture of the brain. Blueprint of the brain & its structures. Uses x-rays to visualize structures: takes x-rays pictures of every layer compile together to make a. Visualizes density w/ high resolution: can see up to 1% difference resolution in different shades of gray. Relies on electromagnetic frequencies: certain people cannot have mri"s if they have anything metallic on their bodies. Functional imaging: imaging that measures electrical activity and how that correlates with function (behaviour) Put small electrodes on the scalp: measures electrical field generated by neuron populations near the scalp. Get participants to perform task, while measuring their brain activity. High temporal resolution: can see what brain is doing at very specific time points (milliseconds) Event-related potentials: spikes in the eegs at time points of specific tasks. Recorded as p1, n1, p2, and so on: positive = the slope was positive before the peak, negative = slope was negative before the peak.
