Document Summary
Persona - latin word for a theatrical mask or a character played by an actor. Personality - broad individuals differences in characteristic patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving. Complex pattern of deeply embedded psychological characteristics, expressed automatically in all areas of functioning. Not to be confused with temperament - basic biological disposition toward emotional, motor and attentional tendencies and capacities. Major dimensions of personality (aka the big five) Except for histrionic and narcissism - not correlated to neuroticism at all. Agreeableness and conscientiousness negatively correlated to most personality disorders. Openness to experience and extraversion - useful in distinguishing between different personality disorders. Stability - state of being stable, unchanged over time. These correlations - we might think - its not stable but the further you go in psychology - 0. 30 is already considered pretty good. Some studies say that only iq is more consistent than our personality. Personality traits continue to change throughout adulthood, but only modestly after age 50.
