Psychosis - group of symptoms that affect the mind, where there is some loss of contact with reality. Not a disorder but is a sign of illness. Positive symptoms - presence of too much of the behaviour that is not apparent in most people. Delusions - strong beliefs that are not true. Hallucinations - experiencing a sense that is not real. Disorganized thought/speech - difficulties organizing ideas and speaking so that a listener can understand. Disorganized or abnormal behaviour - displaying behaviours that are odd or unpredictable; catatonia. Negative symptoms - absence of a behaviour that should be evident in most people. Avolition: lack of will to accomplish purposeful acts. Associality: lack of motivation to engage in social interaction, or a preference for solitary activities. Schizophrenia - severe mental illness involving prolonged psychosis and impaired functioning. Lifetime prevalence of all schizo spectrum disorders = 3-3. 5%
