Not every species" primary sense is sight. Some animals rely of smell or hearing. Some may not think that the mark is abnormal or they are not bothered by it. Levels of the self: minimal self. Conscious experience of the self as distinct from the environment: objectified self. Cognitive capacity to serve as the object of one"s own or someone else"s attention: symbolic self (narrative self)
