Document Summary

The scientific study of the reciprocal influence of the individual and his or her social environment. Other people (and their thoughts feeling, attitudes and behavior) Social psychology: a foothold in abstract theory and concrete practice. Yes cuz social psys traffic in probabilities and likelihood. Ex: if ppl perfrom better on a task if they want to do it vs. if one were to get a reward then the former would do better. There are procedures to determine if the asnwers is yes or no but this phenomenon doesn"t happen to all ppl all the time. Social psychology is not like chemistry or physics: we traffic in probabilities, likelihood, and correlations, rather than absolute laws. Despite the enormous variability of human behaviour, it is possible to extract some basic patterns of human behaviour. These concepts aren"t intuitive so that"s why we do these studies to understand the beliefs ppl have.
