Document Summary

A statistical measures that takes a single score as the most typical/representative of the entire distribution. Esp. when size is small: median. =score that divides the distribution in half. Change a score: median may not change, but mean always change location & number vs. deviation, distance, balance: mode. Helps identify the typical, most common score. Median fall in between mean and mode. A statistical measure that describes the amount of spread or distance between scores in a distribution. Describe how well an individual can represent. Greater variability = greater error, less precision. Distance between the largest value (xmax) and smallest value (xmin) How much a score differ from the mean. Square deviation before summing sum of squares (ss) Variance ( 2) : average squared deviation from the mean. = sum of squares devided by number of scores. Sensitive to outliers (because it"s based on mean) Not useful for descriptive stats ( because of the square)
