As we grow up we get exposed to powerful metaphors and ways of being. Have many years of network assosications impact people"s politicals views. When you think your thinking, your thinking has been predetermined by your feelings and physiology. The classic engligtment picture of humans as rational, selft interested calculations of utlity has been thoroughly shattered by the past few decades of social science and bbiological research. Understanding this is the key to understanding people. We are not thinking creatures that feel, but rather feeling creatures that think. As soon as the elephant wants something different than the rider--- the rider is toast.
