Personality= characteristic pattern of thinking, feeling, and behaving that is unique to each individual, and remains relatively consistent over time and situations: idiographic approach= detailed descriptions of a specific person"s unique personality characteristics. E. g. trying to figure yourself out : nomothetic approach= personality in large groups of people with aim of making generalizations about personality structure. What types of people more or less likely engage in certain behaviors. Personality trait= persons habitual patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving; how that person is most of the time . Allport first to describe individuals physical and psychological attributes. Barnum effect people can easily be convinced that a personality profile describes them when it is false and was not generated to describe them at all: participants all given same description and said it described them.
