Symbolic representation: an abstract mental representation that does not correspond to the physical features of an object or an idea ie: word violin stands for musical instrument not correspondences between what it looks or sounds like. Visual imagery associated with activity in visual perception-related areas of the brain (primary visual cortex) Mental image is not perfectly accurate; corresponds generally to the physical object it represents.
