Document Summary

Consciousness a multi-level process, 3 levels of which are biological: neurochemical- neurotransmitters (neuron-neuron, neuroanatomical- major brain structures and their organization, physiological- major contributions of physiological systems ex. automatic nervous system, hormones, ect. Social programming (everything around you that influences your biology) Environmental domain the physical things around you ex. how hard or cold your chair is. You put a single ant alone in a foreign environment they would function for a short while before they would die. But you put a million ants in a foreign environment and they would exhibit self-directed behavior. One neuron is no neuron but a 100 billion neurons is you. We try to understand consciousness at the smallest level and integrate that into larger level of understanding. Neuron types: sensory take the world and turns it into sensory impulses, interneuron processing of the information received from, motor neuron takes the decision made by the interneuron sensory neurons and follows it through.
