Why study psychology: to know what makes people think, to understand oneself, to help people. In the class we will over the themes the textbook will take care of everything else. Reading list in syllabus is suggested (so read it) We need to be part of 4 experiments (4%) Lecture: all disconnected facts in the end, end up cohering, we need to start with general conclusions that psychologists have said. Fundamental insights: reality is a story, told to us by our brains. We live in a world created by our brain: our brains are artists, not mirrors. They don"t reflect reality; they create a picture of our reality for us. Our experiences do not reflect reality, but rather a construction or representation of reality. This construction process involves a lot of guesswork. Limited amounts of information to tell a story in an unconscious manner.
