Document Summary

Early 1900s - ppl resists the the paradigms in psychology - introspection & freudian psychoanalysis. Make psychology more scientific, experimental; focus on observable aspects of human experience(behavior) Study the salivation of the dog - why they are salivating. Pair the neutral stimulus with the unconditioned (natural) stimulus -> conditioned (learned) stimulus. Higher-order conditioning: neutral stimulus + already established cs -> conditioned stimulus. E. g. transfer the salivation of the bell to the light. Emotion can get triggered by a meaning of things - pick up the meaning with the thing you like. Conditioning - play a big role in our emotional responses. E. g. advertising: get attention from people, and make them like it. Study the white rat - realized eureka - understanding the rat without any introspection. Published psychology as the behaviorist views it . Psychology - purely objective natural science: prediction and control of behavior.
