Document Summary
The science of psychology has come a very, very long way over the past few thousand years. Earlier consciousness was thought to be resided in heart/brain/spirit greeks thought it was in the brain. Now we know it is due to the entire central nervous system. Science has always been contextualized in a larger set of societal/ historical/ political/ ideological/ economic processes . Post enlightenment the rise of the supposed rational, self-interested human; deep divide between cognition and emotion; emphasis on the individual as the unit of analysis.
