Emotional elephant (we are the rider; elephant = emotion) Monkey and terry cloth mom (source of security and comfort) Fundamentally blame themselves (something wrong with them) - dissociation between parts of self that you like/dislike. Understand thrownness (no control - genes, parents, socioeconomic status - existential) Many things condition/structure you to a large degree - formation of our personality. Affection and physical touch = fundamental needs (self driven processes that are cognitive; before they were developed cognitively) -> much of the rest of our self". Social attention, affection, responsiveness build on top of physical layer of self and world relationship -> formation of core beliefs. Physical security -> cognitive and social beings. Unmet needs -> deficiency needs (centres of self-organization) Freud - consumption vs. sense of feeling secure (psychosexual) Different needs at different times with challenges etc.
