PSL201Y1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Adipose Tissue, Blood Sugar, Lipoprotein
Document Summary
Carbohydrates from glucose, proteins from amino acids, lipids from lipoproteins free fatty acids. Carbohydrates is traveleld in glucose and stored in glycogen in liver, skeletall muscle but only. Lipids stored as triglycerides and circulate in free fatty acids, lipoproteins in adipose tissue which is 77% of total energy. Body prefers to use fat stores or carbohydrate stores rather than protein since much of this protein is functional and are structural like proteins in cell components. Some small nutrients can be interconverted, fatty acids can be synthesized from glucose or amino acids energy metabolism=set of reactions involved in energy storage and use reactions the body employs to maintain steady supply of energy. First rule of energy metabolism=since food intake is intermittent, body must store nutrients during periods of intake and breakdown these stores of periods between meals. Energy metabolism fats=triglycerides (form travelled in blood stream)
