PSL201Y1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Epiphyseal Plate, Anterior Pituitary, Thyroid
Document Summary
The supply is 2 capillary beds connected in series a portal system this particular portal system is called the hypothalamic-pituitary portal system. The 5 separate nuclei of anterior pituitary are responsible for synthesis of 6 different hormones, most of it will stimulate secretion of a 3rd set of hormones from endocrine gland somewhere in body. This 3rd hormone on reaching target site will bind to receptor inducing certain changes in that cell that will coordinate some function in body. Gh is released of endocrine cells of anterior pituitary stimulated or inhibited by 2 diff hormones of hypothalamus ghrh when released from hypothalamus will stimulate release of gh. Whereas ghih when released from hypothalamus will inhibit release of gh ghih is also known as somatostatin. If ghih stimulates the release of gh it will diffuse from anterior pituitary into systemic circulation and interact with wide range of target cells exerts numerous effects, body growth.
