Document Summary

Beginnings: from alliance to adversaries: us v. ussr. Germany and the 3 d"s (denazification, demilitarization, democratization) > collective guilt. The soviet union didn"t really have a hard time with the denazification and demilitarization with its portion of germany. Denazification became an important problem and is still relevant today. The demilitarization was also problematic; did not represent the kind of represent that represented the end of wwi where the german military was still in tact. Democratization: western and eastern region had very different views of democracy. West: political democracy; liberal democracy; leads to private wealth including large corporation in the control of private owners. These conflicts eventually led to the partition of germany; a unified germany would be a communist germany. The western powers tried to prevent the reunification of germany by introducing a separate currency and constitution for germany. Closed the channels of movement from east berlin to west berlin, and solidified east germany as an economic factor.
