Document Summary

Colonial nigeria: origins of a neopatrimonial state and a commodity exporting economy: the colonial origins of comparative state development. The ir was the inspiration for modernization theory. Mt proponents believed economic development happen just how the ir did. Lots of goodies that accompanies modernization, all good things go together: Economic industrialization: factory employment, production of surplus, economic specialization. Social industrialization: urbanization, literacy, media participation political industrialization: union organization, political organization demands for universal suffrage. This is the model they got from the ir and then they proposed that other countries in the world would follow the model. They imagined that the positive correlation of gdp and democratic was a prediction of development over time, and that the modernization of countries around the world would follow the model of the ir. Some of it was right; most of it was wrong.
