Document Summary

Just war theory, applied in kosovo, afghanistan, iraq, gaza, libya, Most moralists of war, including mckenna, lie between two extremes regarding war: paci sm. Resorting to war is an absolute moral wrong. Within this view there is a con ict between general paci sm (all violence is wrong, e. g. quakers) and speci c anti-war paci sm (violence is only wrong as long as its in war) Note that deontology says war is never justi ed, no matter its ends: international" realism. War is never wrong, because war lies outside of the moral realm. Due to its position outside the moral realm, morality ceases to govern action and thus, all actions are permissible. The middle ground here says that some wars are right and other wars are wrong: this particular position emphasizes the morality behind the methodologies of waging war. E. g. its righteous to direct military force against soldiers, but wrongful if directed against civilians.
