Formal equality same resources to everyone; sameness there is no gender, race, difference. Substantive equity recognizing that differences matter and considering those differences in socioeconomic and historical context; social justice: neoliberalism. Go over lecture topics and connect them to the readings. Survival of the fittest (social darwinism) argument is that humans compete with one another for survival; the victorious group is successful because it is superior to other groups. Adaption rich and powerful were better adapted to social and economic climate of the time. Natural selection it is natural, normal, and proper for the strong to thrive at the expense of the weak.
