Document Summary

Lecture 5 - dr. tamminen (start of adaptive immune system- special features) There are innate cells (inborn, unchanging) and adaptive cells (imrives over time in response to circumstances). In ammation is what activates the adaptive immunity reponse. Lymphocytes are the cells of the adaptive immunity. There are various types of lymphocytes including b cells and t cells. We are focusing on conventional t cells and b cells which are the majority. After a pathogen enters there is recognition a response and then a return to resting occurs in adaptive immunity as well. There is a small region on the antigen called the epitope that is bound by lymphocyte antigen receptor. The b cell receptor is called immunoglobin (ig). B cells when activated secrete ig in the form of an antibody. There are 2 chains that form the t cell receptor a beta chain and an alpha chain and 2 binding sites aswell.
