Every moment has same degree of sophistication/complexity as now (now = not better position) = no progress: no limit to knowledge. Look at them in past and how people looked at them. Who symbol: snake (symbol of medicine, represent healing= the rod of asclepius = god of healing in ancient greece) One feature of medical tradition: from antiquity to the renaissance, past was considered = major source of authoritative knowledge. Thought knowledge was already created and all you had to do was perfect this = greece = source of medical authority. Asclepius: the most famous healing god of antiquity. Epidaurus: sanctuary of asclepius: sick people travelled from afar to epidaurus in order to be cured in the temples of asclepius.
