Jewish but french, from alsace: he was found guilty on the basis of evidence that people realized was tampered and corrupted unjust conviction, he was sentenced to life imprisonment on devil"s island in french guiana. It is a huge example of the miscarriage of justice: dreyfus is a symbol of the conservatism and corruption of the french state which had a huge roman catholic foundation. People however wanted to exonerate him but people who would claim that he was innocent would be seen as traitors.
