Document Summary
The industrial revolution is still affecting us today. It had a longer arc than the french revolution. It lasted around a century, and continued to develop thereafter. It affected everyone regardless of sex, age, class. A more accurate name would be industrial transformation. it was concentrated over a period of a few decades. In fact, it was embryonic in the development of he capitalist economic order. We"ve also seen the idea of economic order being challenged by power. There will always be the incentive for people who create goods to increase profits by expanding the economy and their profits. The entire idea, then, and the assumptions of the capitalist system was something the enlightenment thinkers debated at great length. Most fell into the category john locke had identified: life, liberty and private property. It"s part of being human to want to own and acquire things, and let those things be extensions of who we are.
