All liberal ideologies go back to john locke and his second treatise. The assaults on royal prerogative were adopted as sacred moments for liberalism. Discussed the various components of liberalism and types of liberty. There can be no civil society when there is arbitrary power or a lack of civil laws. Economic liberty: taxation is necessary in a civilized state, but those taxed must agree to the level of taxation. Taxation is the instrument through which policy can be achieved. The idea of having restriction is important to liberty (all liberties are subject to restraint) The levels of freedom must always be debated and never assumed. Education should be free and available to all. Freedom of trade and association: freedom of the marketplace cannot be absolute. Domestic liberty: the role of the individual man and woman in the family. Liberals believe women deserve the same opportunities as men. Racial liberty: the imperialist vision of the 19th century complicated liberalism.
