The majority worked on plantations, where they sought as much they could to recreate their own culture (music, dance, decoration, names) They obtained better positions and had more opportunities than newly arriving slaves could communicate better and navigate the legal system with former knowledge. Relationship betw the 2 was not always good as crioulo was favored and treated better. Charter generation of slaves (atlantic creoles): cosmopolitan, multilingual, and assimilated to euro culture.
