Coercive diplomacy: tightening screws if you continue, we will eventually go to war. Strategy -> it must correspond w/ personal goals. What is strategy? long-term planning -> use all resources to achieve political, diplo objective. Iraqi invas"n: thought most iraqis would welcome usa but they didn"t! - *if strategy is wrong, cannot succeed. How to ensure survival states & mankind: tie belligerents to ethical, moral, relig codes, regulate warfare -> limit use certain weapons limit wars to political objectives. Relig: they result in even more combat: muslims vs. christians, suni vs shiite, catho vs protestants.
