Women represented in relation to eve in this kind of evil connection. Wasn t possible for women to ignore this at this particular time because religion was such a pervasive part in women s lives. The stakes of religious authority in medieval women s lives. Leading a religious life & claims to spiritual authority as gender struggle within patriarchal christianity. What women s religious lives meant for challenging ideas and what leading a religious life meant to shaping women s social, political, and economic circumstances. Didn t necessarily mean that women didn t engage in religion. They challenged the ideas interpreted through eve: truth claims, religion and science, querelles des femmes: gender & morals. The women question developed, begins in this period, takes on different forms later. Popular culture movement: roles in religious institutions & partnerships with male ecclesiastics.
