Article (slide 4): leilani farha discusses homelessness and how we need to think of it as a part of housing market in global cities. Went through period of decline in 1900s so being redeveloped. The red gap (refer to week 7 notes) City wanted to make 2138 of a landscape w large homeless population (mostly first nation) Low-income neighbourhoods designated as empty land to rationalize re-development. City put up condos in neighbourhoods to change area from homeless area high end professional living neighbourhood near downtown core. This helps the city/ private developers make 2138 Artists being used to set ground for gentrification (a lot of art studios, etc. )
