Infrastructure: physical, the physical networks through which goods, ideas, waste, power, people, and finance are trafficked. (larkin 2013, material systems, networks that allow the circulation of things, ex: ppl. On transit, capital through digital networks, water through pipelines. Perhaps no component of the physical infrastructure is more fundamental to the economic, social, and environmental sustainability of the twenty-first century city than transportation. (miller, 2006: 102) Video notes: ship tracking, shows a network of ships in seven seas, makes oceans look like highways, constant mobility. Picture: most common occupation in u. s : truck drivers. Ex: before unloading/loading ships would take weeks now ships are desgined to fit these things = less time used to unload/load, reducing workforce = reduced costs, intensifies speed of movement. Huge impact on city bc all the infrastrcutures that support it are also standardized so these boxes can be handled the same way in the world.
