Invasion of indigenous lands, replacement of their ways of life and their ideologies. Often, settler-indigenous encounters were violent, but not outrightly so. Followed by expansion of settler colonial state and extraction of land. To now, post-colonial settler colonialism it continues. Begins with independence in us and confederation in canada. After independence, expansion westward happens pretty quickly by 1820s there"s expansion into midwest. Idea of manifest destiny in the us, and a mari usque ad mare is canada"s motto ( from sea to sea ) This motto comes from the bible from sea to sea, man should have dominion over all. Manifest destiny white settlers overlooking fertile empty land or poor peoples, progress forward. A right and requirement to take over land from coast to coast. Ideas of private property, settlement types, etc were enforced over new conquered lands. Cities and settler colonialisms are co-constituent they formed together.
