Document Summary
Glu and lys are not going to be found in the middle of a membrane protein, it is energetically unfavorable because the lipid bilayer is hydrophobic, and the residues are charged. Beta turns are found on the surface of the proteins; the residues are going to be exposed to water therefore must not be hydrophobic. Beta turns: pro most common at i+1, gly most common at i+2, the best beta turn, asn pro gly gly . Residues: glu, met, ala, leu, lys, val. Ile: tyr, phe, trp, asn, gly, pro, asp, ser. Blue positive charge // red negative charge (if you want to create a negative/positive charged 2 structure) (tip: make sure not a lot of negatively charged residues look at alpha helix former example) Glu at residues 1 and 4, wont form an alpha helix they"re right on top of each other. Glu at 1 and 2 would work, as they"re 100 away from each other.
