Mars is in many ways similar to earth. Geological activities on mars: there are many evidences that mars was geologically active. Volcanoes many extinct volcanoes e. g. olympus mons is the largest volcano in the solar system same size as the state of arizona, really high 21,229m high (in comparison mount. Tectonics in the past e. g. valles marineris is a vast system of canyons caused by tectonic activity in the past. It is the biggest canyon in the solar system. Missions to mars: esa: mars express (2003~) There is ice and snow in the polar regions. Mars looks very similar to earth, no vegetations or anything but looks like a dry patch of: nasa: mars reconnaissance orbiter (2005~) Rovers beam the information to orbiter which then sends the info to earth. Observations e. g. a crater filled with co2 frost, dusty tornado: nasa: spirit and opportunity (2004~) They were expected to last for 1 year. Opportunity is still going (45km and counting).
