Document Summary
Those who are less equal give consent to those who are more equal. The postcolony: a former colony or dominated country, now independent, ghana, congo. India: state of all former colonies, taken together, often inherited the relations of production. Inherited means of production from colonial period: with foreign owners and managers remaining, or replaced by local personnel without structural changes. Hegemony: antonio gramsci, 1891-1931, spontaneous consent given by the great masses of the population to the general direction imposed on social life by the dominant fundamental group; this consent is. "historically" caused by the prestige, which the dominant group enjoys because of its position and function in the world of production. Notes: dominant, refers to society, prestige, refers to culture, spontaneous consent, required for hegemony, does not always occur. If it does not occur then there is a struggle: struggle can also be spontaneous, or can be explicit, organized.
